Fire & Water Damage Restoration: Frequently asked questions
What restoration work do you handle?
We can evaluate reconstruction needs involving damaged walls, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, finishes, and building components. Your proposal will identify whether mitigation, drying, cleaning, or specialist services are included or coordinated separately.
Is emergency mitigation the same as reconstruction?
They are different stages. Mitigation addresses immediate damage and stabilization; reconstruction repairs or replaces affected building components. We’ll clarify which stage your project is in and what services are needed.
When can rebuilding begin?
Reconstruction begins after the property is ready for the agreed work. That may involve addressing the source of damage, completing drying or cleaning, and obtaining necessary documentation or approvals.
Can you work from my insurance estimate?
Yes. Share the estimate, photos, and available reports so we can compare them with the proposed repair scope and identify questions or differences.
Will you document damage for my insurance claim?
We can provide photos, measurements, estimates, and supporting construction documentation within our scope. Your insurance company determines coverage and claim payment.
What if additional damage is discovered during demolition?
We’ll document it, explain the recommended repair, and provide updated pricing. Additional work requires authorization, and any insurance review follows the insurer’s process.
Can I upgrade finishes during restoration?
Often, yes. We can price upgrades separately so you understand the difference between the repair scope and your preferred improvements.
Can I stay in the property during restoration?
That depends on the extent of damage, utility availability, access, and conditions at the property. We’ll discuss construction-related concerns before work begins.
How long will restoration take?
Timing depends on the damage, mitigation status, approvals, selections, inspections, and material availability. We provide a reconstruction schedule when the project is sufficiently defined.
Do you offer emergency response?
Contact us to confirm current availability and the services we can provide. Emergency stabilization, mitigation, and reconstruction may require different crews or specialists.
General project questions
How does the free 24-hour estimate work?
Choose your project type and describe your project in your own words. We’ll build a spec sheet for you to confirm, then send your free preliminary estimate within 24 hours. Add your contact information; photos and approximate measurements are optional. Roofing and exterior requests require your full street address so we can order a satellite measurement report. If essential information is missing, we’ll contact you to clarify the scope. Your estimate is hassle free: no commitment and no repeated sales calls. Estimates are valid for 30 days.
Is my online estimate a final construction price?
The initial estimate is based on the information provided. Final pricing may require a site visit, verified measurements, selections, and a written scope.
Can I book an in-home consultation?
Yes. Use our online scheduling option to choose an available consultation time and discuss your project with our team.
Do you offer financing?
We offer financing options through Acorn Finance, subject to approval and the partner’s current terms. The application link is attached to your estimate; financing applications are available after you receive it.
Is there a fee for scanning, modeling, or design selections?
Design and modeling are complementary services included with an approved remodel project. Independent design and consultation services are billed at an hourly rate or flat fee depending on the scope of the project. Your proposal identifies the services included, and any separate fee, agreement, or construction credit is disclosed before design work begins.
Who handles permits?
We identify permit needs during project planning. Your written agreement specifies responsibility for applications, fees, drawings, inspections, and any required professional services.
What warranty applies to my project?
Our workmanship is backed by a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty, subject to the written terms and exclusions. Your proposal and warranty documents explain the applicable coverage; manufacturer warranties are separate. Ask us to review the coverage for your specific project.
How are changes handled after I approve the project?
Changes are documented in writing with any price and schedule adjustments. We obtain approval before proceeding with additional work.
How are payments scheduled?
Your agreement specifies the deposit, progress payments, and final payment requirements. We review the schedule with you before work begins.
What areas do you serve?
D.A.S. Homes serves Chicagoland, including the south and northwest suburbs, and Northwest Indiana. Share your project location so we can confirm service availability.
