Whole-Home Remodeling & Primary Suites: Frequently asked questions
What is included in a whole-home remodel?
The scope can include kitchens, bathrooms, flooring, painting, doors, trim, layout changes, and updates to building systems. We define the work room by room so you understand what is included.
Can you help me decide what to renovate first?
Yes. We can organize priorities around your goals, budget, existing conditions, and how you plan to use the home. This helps create a practical scope and construction sequence.
Can the project be completed in phases?
Yes, when the work allows it. We’ll discuss how phasing affects access, repeated setup, pricing, and the overall completion timeline.
Do I need to move out during construction?
That depends on the extent of the work. Projects affecting multiple bathrooms, the kitchen, utilities, or safe access may require temporary relocation for some or all of construction.
Can you open up the floor plan?
We can evaluate wall removal and layout changes. Structural modifications may require an engineer, architectural documentation, and permits.
How do you create a consistent design throughout the home?
We coordinate recurring elements such as flooring, trim, doors, lighting, hardware, and colors. Your design scope identifies the planning, modeling, and selections support included.
How do you manage the budget?
We establish a written scope, identify allowances and exclusions, and document approved changes. Completing selections early helps reduce uncertainty before construction.
What happens if hidden problems are discovered?
We’ll explain the condition, document the proposed correction, and identify any effect on the budget or schedule. Additional work is addressed through a written change order.
How will I receive project updates?
Before work starts, we establish your point of contact and communication expectations. We’ll explain how progress, upcoming decisions, and changes will be shared.
General project questions
How does the free 24-hour estimate work?
Choose your project type and describe your project in your own words. We’ll build a spec sheet for you to confirm, then send your free preliminary estimate within 24 hours. Add your contact information; photos and approximate measurements are optional. Roofing and exterior requests require your full street address so we can order a satellite measurement report. If essential information is missing, we’ll contact you to clarify the scope. Your estimate is hassle free: no commitment and no repeated sales calls. Estimates are valid for 30 days.
Is my online estimate a final construction price?
The initial estimate is based on the information provided. Final pricing may require a site visit, verified measurements, selections, and a written scope.
Can I book an in-home consultation?
Yes. Use our online scheduling option to choose an available consultation time and discuss your project with our team.
Do you offer financing?
We offer financing options through Acorn Finance, subject to approval and the partner’s current terms. The application link is attached to your estimate; financing applications are available after you receive it.
Is there a fee for scanning, modeling, or design selections?
Design and modeling are complementary services included with an approved remodel project. Independent design and consultation services are billed at an hourly rate or flat fee depending on the scope of the project. Your proposal identifies the services included, and any separate fee, agreement, or construction credit is disclosed before design work begins.
Who handles permits?
We identify permit needs during project planning. Your written agreement specifies responsibility for applications, fees, drawings, inspections, and any required professional services.
What warranty applies to my project?
Our workmanship is backed by a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty, subject to the written terms and exclusions. Your proposal and warranty documents explain the applicable coverage; manufacturer warranties are separate. Ask us to review the coverage for your specific project.
How are changes handled after I approve the project?
Changes are documented in writing with any price and schedule adjustments. We obtain approval before proceeding with additional work.
How are payments scheduled?
Your agreement specifies the deposit, progress payments, and final payment requirements. We review the schedule with you before work begins.
What areas do you serve?
D.A.S. Homes serves Chicagoland, including the south and northwest suburbs, and Northwest Indiana. Share your project location so we can confirm service availability.
